Mission of Role:
The Head of R&D will be the founding leader and visionary for our new China-based R&D Center. This individual will be responsible for building a world-class research team from the ground up, defining the scientific strategy, and establishing research programs in advanced biologics discovery and development. The successful candidate will have an impeccable track record of leadership in a top-tier US biopharmaceutical environment and the ability to translate that experience into the Chinese market.
Key Responsibilities:
· Strategic Leadership: Define and execute the R&D scientific strategy for the China Center, aligning with global objectives. Identify and prioritize research focus areas (e.g., novel antibody formats, Mult specifics, ADC, cell & gene therapy CMC challenges).
· Team Building & Development: Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing team of scientists and researchers. Foster a culture of scientific excellence, innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
· Hands-on Research Oversight: Provide expert scientific guidance and oversight for all research activities. Ensure projects are conducted with rigor, meet key milestones, and adhere to the highest scientific and ethical standards.
· Global Collaboration: Work seamlessly with global R&D, process development, and manufacturing teams and other global sites to integrate China's research outputs into the company's broader pipeline and technology platforms.
· External Innovation: Act as the key scientific face in China. Identify and evaluate potential collaboration opportunities with academic institutions, biotech startups, and pharmaceutical companies.
· Budget & Resource Management: Develop and manage the center's budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for personnel, equipment, and external collaborations.
· Compliance & IP: Ensure all research activities comply with relevant Chinese and international regulations. Work closely with the legal team to protect intellectual property.
职位要求
Qualifications & Experience:
· Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Chemical Engineering, or a related life sciences field.
· Minimum of 15 years of progressive experience in biologics drug discovery and development, with at least 8 years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Director, VP, Head of Research).
· Non-negotiable Requirement: Proven track record of leading successful R&D teams at a top-tier biopharmaceutical company in the United States (e.g., Genentech/Roche, Amgen, Pfizer, Merck, J&J, AbbVie, Bristol Myers Squibb, Regeneron, Gilead).
· Deep expertise in biologics, with a strong publication and patent record.
· Experience with the end-to-end drug development process, from target discovery to pre-clinical/early clinical development.
· Must have demonstrated experience in building, mentoring, and managing a team of PhD-level scientists.
· Prior experience working in or closely with an Asian business environment is a significant plus.
